Getting people to switch banks isn’t easy. We’re creatures of habit, stuck in our ways. Even if those old ways aren’t profiting us. So we offered new customers a deal that they couldn’t refuse. A 1% cash bonus on new deposits—the payback for what they would’ve made had they been banking with Ally. We ran ads to tell people about this promotion, as well as ads that fueled dissatisfaction with their current banks. During Payback Time, over 65,000 new accounts were opened and Ally overshot their year goal by $1.3 billion.
