Clean Water Access, Malawi
In 2019 I joined Marion Medical Mission in Malawi for 5 weeks to document the work their teams of African employees and western volunteers building affordable wells bringing water and hope to remote villages serving the rural poor.
I shot photographs and film constantly as we traversed the country, creating a visual catalog to communicate the decades of work the organization has been creating in the desperately poor country, illustrating the impact through individual stories. After the pre-trip strategy weekend with the founder to understand his goals for the organization, was respectful, human, intimate portraiture and stories which elevates the Malawians above the poverty cliches and shows the viewer a human who could be their neighbor, carrying many of the same hopes and dreams as they.
My end deliverables included thousands of still photographs for used in print, digital and social media marketing materials for fundraising. With the help of editor Kelly Hansen of Forage Edits, we also completed a series of documentary short films for their social media channels and in person showings for fundraising for many years to come. We successfully brought the beauty and joy of Malawi and giving to the US viewers to help MMM continue to do their work for many decades to come.
